Community building
One of the first major initiatives of the FSVCA was obtaining fire protection from the Fernie Fire Department for our community. Initial funding for fire protection was provided by voluntary contributions from property owners. In 1998 fire protection services funding was incorporated into the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) property tax.
Over the years the FSVCA has been involved in a number of issues in support of the community including utility charges, the Community Services Assessment fund (formerly called the ‘rent charge’), road and traffic safety and general governance issues.
Most recently the FSVCA undertook an active role in the approval process for the proposed development of the Galloway lands adjacent to Fernie Alpine Resort and the Timber Landing expansion by Resorts of the Canadian Rockies (RCR). The FSVCA is committed to advocating for development that supports our community vision and values.
The FSVCA works collaboratively with the Fernie Alpine Resort owner/operator, RCR, on a variety of issues including the Community Services Assessment, signage and traffic safety, garbage and wildlife management.
